Martha’s journey began as a trailblazing music-comedy duo with Eve Polycarpou as ‘Donna and Kebab’ (Live at the Hackney Empire DVD). This led to several International and national tours, TV and radio appearances, and three albums (1996/200/2006) as the popular songwriting duo ‘Martha and Eve’.
Martha’s wide-ranging musical journey since the mid-1990s has included world jazz compositions, Arts Council commissions, theatre music, film and documentary music, and presenting documentaries. Martha’s debut solo album of jazz-world music, Café Aman-Double Life (2007), was awarded ‘Best Album of the Year’ by BBC Radio, and tracks featured on the ‘Best Of European Jazz Compilation CD’ in 2010.
Following Martha’s appearance as a Presenter and singer in the feature film documentary ‘My Sweet Canary’—about the life and music of Roza Eskenazy, the first lady of the eastern Mediterranean blues—Martha released an album of brave re-imaginings of classic urban Greek blues, ‘Homage to Roza’ (2015), featuring legendary drummer Jack De Johnette.
As a dynamic entertainer, Martha D. Lewis always looks ahead to create the next project, ensuring constant artistic progression.
ALL THAT YOU SEE (2022) – is Martha D Lewis’s sixth and boldest album to date and marked a new dawn. In this album of Indie Jazz-infused songs, there is a sense that you are in the hands of a masterful songwriter who can just as easily converse with emotional pain and then, equally comfortably, take strides of angst at the world around us.
To create a dynamic new direction for this collection of songs, Martha gathered high-class musicians for the project at Real World Studios. This included drummer Ian Matthews (Kasabian), Producer Nick Cohen (Massive Attack, Annie Lennox), and renowned innovative producer and sound engineer Stephen W Tayler. From decades of experience working with greats such as Kate Bush, Phil Collins, Stevie Nicks, and Peter Gabriel, Stephen W Tayler has sprinkled stardust onto the mixes of Martha’s songs.
“..infused with Jazz sensibilities and art-pop, an intriguing new approach for Martha’s cutting edge new album “ – Music Arenagh
“listen to this tender record, full of vulnerable, beautiful songs and discover a great singer who gives an insight into the vulnerable sides of her own life but at the same time also shows herself to be combative and encourages you to embrace the real, pure life with all its emotions and to experience it to the fullest.”-Rootstime
