A Citrus Celebration: The History of Fête du Citron
The Fête du Citron, or Lemon Festival, is a vibrant annual event held in Menton, a picturesque town on France’s Côte d’Azur, this year running 15th February – 2nd March.
A Slice of History
The festival officially took form in 1934 and has since grown into a world-famous celebration. Every February, Menton transforms into a citrus wonderland, featuring elaborate sculptures made from lemons and oranges, parades of citrus-adorned floats, lively street performances, and artisan markets. This spectacular event pays homage to the region’s rich lemon-growing heritage and attracts over 200,000 visitors each year.
