Starring Ivanno Jeremiah (Constellations) as the young Sidney Poitier, this electrifying play explores a defining moment in Hollywood history. Ten years before becoming the first Black man to win the Academy Award for best actor, Poitier faces a career-defining decision: sign a contract that could make him a star—or stay true to his principles in the face of industry pressure.
Directed by the Kiln Theatre’s Amit Sharma, and featuring Stanley Townsend (Netflix’s Kaos) and Oliver Johnstone (Antigone), this powerful drama has been hailed as an “exceptional” (The Guardian) exploration of integrity, ambition, and betrayal.

Age recommendation: 14+. Running time: 90 minutes (no interval). Wine included for guests aged 18+.
This £75/£69.50/£59.50 Meal Package is valid for all performances excluding Saturdays until 1 June 2025, and includes a band A seat for Retrograde and the 2-course pre-theatre set menu at Brasserie Zedel, including a glass of wine* and service. No other menu will be available to guests at the time of dining.
The meal must be taken on the same day as the performance (pre or post-show).
Customers will be responsible for any additional charges for food or beverages purchased.
*Alcohol for over 18’s. Ginger Buck Mocktail Soft drink alternative available.
It is your responsibility to contact Brasserie Zedel to book your meal. The restaurant cannot guarantee that guests without a booking will be seated.
Pre-show customers must be seated 1.5 to 2 hours before your performance begins.
Post-show last bookings are 10:45pm Monday – Friday and 9:45pm on a Sunday.
